Signs You’re Pushing Yourself Too Hard

Changes that are easy to miss when stress and exhaustion build up.

People who try hard are often the last to notice they are worn out. If you see these changes, it may be a sign to slow down a little.

Emotional signs

Things you used to enjoy no longer feel fun. Small things make you irritable or bring tears. Plans with people feel like a burden.

Physical signs

You wake up tired even after sleeping. You have lost your appetite, or you are eating more than usual. Stiff shoulders or headaches keep coming back.

Behavioral signs

You are making more mistakes. Decisions feel harder. You feel guilty whenever you rest.

When you notice the signs

Start by admitting to yourself, “I’m tired.” Skip one chore, cancel one plan, or go to bed early. Each of those counts as taking care of yourself.

If these feelings last a long time or daily life feels hard, please talk to your doctor, a counselor, or one of the helplines listed here.
